Winning Start To The Dalton Cup Campaign

St Michael’s 9 – 11 St Macartan’s 1 – 8

St Michaels got their Dalton Cup campaign off to an impressive winning start today over St. Macartan’s Monaghan. The match was played at a rainy Smithborough but the St Michael’s boys coped much better with the conditions to go in at half-time leading 3 – 5 to 1 – 4. The St Michael’s goals coming from Justin McDade, Connor McGovern and the nippy Diarmaid King. The Monaghan goal coming as a result of a penalty after Oisin Seaney in the St Michael’s goal was judged to have pulled down the Monaghan forward. It was during the first fifteen minutes of the second half that St Michael’s started to get the scores their dominance deserved. Goals from Diarmaid King, one from a penalty, Justin McDade, Cormac McCauley, Rory Joe Duffy and super-sub Dylan Martin ended the match as a contest. Micheal Flanagan, Captain Cathair Leonard and Eamon Lynam also chipped in with good points with play. So, a good start to the campaign and the boys are looking forward to next week’s match against St Mary’s Magherafelt.
