Christopher to Represent Northern Ireland in UK National Science and Engineering competition

A former student of St Michael’s College, Christopher Lawn has been invited to represent Northern Ireland at the National Science and Engineering Competition 2016 to be held at the Big Bang: UK Young Scientists and Engineers fair at the NEC, Birmingham in March.

This follows on from Christopher winning the top STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Maths) award for Craftsmanship, for his ‘A’ level Technology and Design project; a handmade electric guitar at the Sentinus Young Innovators 2015 All-Ireland Competition in Belfast.

Head of Technology and Design at St Michael’s College, Connor McBarron said, “I am delighted that Christopher’s talent, dedication and creativity had been recognised in such a prestigious competition.”

Christopher’s achievement is all the more laudable given the standard of work this year. Alexis Hunger-Craig, Schools Manager at the British Science Association congratulated Christopher and the other winning students, adding, “The standard of entries this year has been outstanding and competition for places at the finals has been extremely high.”

Mr McBarron, himself no stranger to success having been awarded the title of Best Young UK Designer in his own senior year at school went on to say, “I hope that this wonderful achievement opens doors for Christopher, because it’s no more than he deserves. All of us here in St Michael’s College wish him the very best of luck as he moves forward as Irish National Champion onto the UK stage.”
