As the regulations allowed extra-curricular sporting activity to recommence recently, there was one very important piece of business to be finished off, as the internal Year 8 League from the 2019-20 school year was completed, albeit in April 2021!!
The bad weather and pitch conditions in late 2019 had held up the Year 8 League, and the plan had been to finish off the competition and put a block of coaching in place from St Patrick’s week 2020 onwards, but of course it never happened due to Covid. Coaches Mr Rasdale and Mr Eunan Maguire had always said that this match would be a fitting one to get things moving again after a very frustrating time for all of us. It was great to see lads out again.”
As for the match itself, 9M lived up to their pre match favourites tag with a very convincing win over 9P. 9P had done very well to stay in contention, with a lot of defending and blocking keeping the margin to six points at half time. However, the non stop attacking by the 9M squad saw them win with plenty to spare in the end. Tadgh Britton, Sean Corry, Michael Cleary, Michael Duffy and James Kelly were particularly strong, but the entire team played very effectively in truth, with numerous impressive contributors. For 9P, Ryan McCann and Naoise Harbinson were outstanding in a tough match for them, with good support from ‘keeper Ronan Morris and James Moore. Well done 8M/9M!!
