Planning permission has been obtained for the development of a state of the art 4G Floodlit All Weather Football pitch at St Michael's College. The development will include a 400 metre Athletics Track and Pavilion fully equipped with changing rooms , showers , toilets and office accommodation as well as shelter for spectators from inclement weather.
The development is planned to take place on the site of one of the grass pitches located beside the new Cherrymount Link road. There will also be ample car parking for visitors beside the new pavilion.
These new facilities will be a great improvement on the existing pitches which have been well used since their installation almost 25 years ago. The College wishes to continually improve provision for its own students while at the same time reaching out to community groups and provide an even better experience for them as the new development will bring excellent opportunities for groups and clubs to use the facilities to develop their chosen sport whether in Athletics, Gaelic Football, Soccer, Rugby and indeed any other sport which a group or club would like to promote.
The College placed advertisements locally and nationally this week seeking to appoint a select list of companies who wished to tender for this exciting project which is expected to cost at least £1 million. The project is being managed by Keys Monaghan Architects in Irvinestown and is currently being considered for funding under the Department of Education's School Enhancement Programme. It is hoped to have the project underway within the next 12 months subject to DENI approval.
