Each year the examinations body CCEA organise an awards ceremony for students who have been placed 1st in Northern Ireland in GCSE and A’ Level subjects. This year St. Michael’s College had the distinction of having three of their students invited to the event which took place just before Christmas.

Oisin Harbinson was placed 1st in Northern Ireland in GCSE Irish, Cathal Rafferty was placed 1st in GCSE Design & Technology and Tom Gaffney was placed 1st in GCSE German. The boys received their awards from CCEA Chief Executive Justin Edwards. Also in attendance were their teachers Maighread Ui Chaoilte (Head of Irish), Connor McBarron (Head of Technology & Design) and Brendan Rasdale (Head of German) along with Principal Mark Henry.

Mr Henry commented ‘Everyone in St. Michael’s is extremely proud of the achievements of Oisin, Cathal and Tom in being placed first in Northern Ireland. These awards are testament to their outstanding academic ability and their terrific work ethic. I am absolutely delighted for them.’

Mr Henry added ‘These awards also recognise the expertise and hard work of the boys’ teachers Maighread Ui Chaoilte, Connor McBarron and Brendan Rasdale. A huge thank you to them and to all the teachers in St. Michael’s who through their tireless work provide all our boys with the platform to excel in their examinations.’
