Year 8 raise £1,930 for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children.

All Year 8 classes took part in 'ReadOn' in May 2016, raising £1,930 for the Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. The top fundraisers were (from left to right) Tom Blake, Jack Martin, Ciaran Mc Laughlin and Sean O’Brien (missing from photograph). They were presented with certificates marking their efforts by Mrs Rebecca Oates from the Cancer Fund for Children.

A beautiful autumnal morning saw almost 600 St Michael’s students take to the playing fields and college grounds for the 13th edition of our internal school cross-country championships and fun run for the Oisin McGrath Foundation, sponsored again this year by McDade’s Centra Derrylin and Clogher. Right from the first race of the day the combined year 11 and 12 event there were some thrilling encounters with Sean Vaugh leading from the gun only to be overhauled in the closing fifty metres by Aidan McDonnell who took his first St Michael’s title. Excellent Performance Sees 8O Take Year 8 Title!

The pundits were predicting 8T by a few points, but 8O were having none of it as they held the lead in both halves to take a thoroughly deserved victory in the 2016 Year 8 final. Conditions were perfect down on the bottom pitch as 8O went straight on the attack and after a bit of ping pong around the edge of the square, they grabbed a goal as Finn Dorrian slammed home a ball that a few 8T lads should have booted out of the danger zone.
