Each year in St Michael’s College we focus on a different theme for our Healthy Lifestyle week. This Year our theme is “ find your way for five a day”
 
Our Year 8 Students will be taught about the importance of “Five a Day” through a thematic approach by a variety of departments.
 
Students in Year 8 worked on posters in the Art Department and here are the winners

  • Science: Students will work through Diet and Health Workboook

 

  • Mathematics -Eat your Veggies

 

 

  • Home Economics

      Identify favourite fruits

Know benefits of eating 5 a day

Produce a colourful fruit salad in class

 

  • P.E.

Fitness Suite

(a)    Bleep Test(20 metre Endurance Test in the Sports Hall)

(b)    Chin – ups(Test in new Fitness Suite)

(c)    Introduction to Circuits(Mini circuit in Sports Hall)

(d)    Agility Circuit/Obstacle Course(Assembly Hall)

 

Road Map to improved Health and Fitness

All Year 8 Pupils will be given a handout which highlights the Key Areas that need to be worked on in order to improve their general health and fitness e.g. Lifestyle, Exercise as a family Diet,Diet/Nutrition,Benefits of Physical Activity

 

  • ICT -Poster campaign to promote ‘Find a way for your five a day’.

 

  • French/Irish -.Year 8 will learn vocabulary on Fruit/Vegetables and producing posters

 

  • Music – Compose, Perform and record a rap in groups of four focusing on he Health promotion using vocals, percussion and sound effects.

£20 for 1st place in Year group

 

  • Drama – Investigate pupils’ perception of health-related stereotypes in a short drama presentation, for example , ‘a day in the life of a couch potato/ a fitness fanatic/a pensioner’

 

English- Themed poetry competition on ‘Five a Day’. Rap on Eating 5 portions of veg/fruit a day .Choral Recitation of Jabberwocky

 

  • Art and  Design – Produce a Poster on ‘Five a day’

1st Prize: £20

2nd Prize: £15

3rd Prize: £10 for each year group plus a prize for the best slogan
